Believe it or not, me time, is rare for me. Even though I work from home and by myself about 45% of the time, I still find it hard to fit in me time. How's that possible? Well me time doesn't mean time that you are just physically by yourself. Me time is when you are spending time on your own doing something that's fun for you and makes you happy. When I work from home, I find that I don't really turn off work. I wake up, work on 45 Fairmount, work for from 9-6, and then work on 45 Fairmount again. There's no shut off point. I realized that this is just going to totally drain me in the long run if I keep it up, so this summer I made a vow to make a change.

Last month, my brother and I read The Miracle Morning. It's a quick and interesting read about spending quality time with yourself in the morning by waking up an hour early and doing 6 things (sitting in silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, writing). While I can totally get on board with being productive in the morning and I especially the days when I start with meditation, it was a little stressful for me to set my timer on each step to make sure I get it in. After a few weeks, I was able to identify what parts of The Miracle Morning where adding quality to my day. Meditation and reading are now something that I look forward to in the morning. I did find a great 10 minute workout here that I love, but it's not as consistent in my day as the other to.

In order to keep this up, I've given myself room for flexibility. There are just some mornings where you can't get up early or you do have to get up early for another engagement, so unless this was done at 5am, it's just not going to happen. So when these instances do pop up, I suggest scheduling when you're going to to them that day. Maybe it's before bed or maybe it's before your lunch break. Make the conscious effort to schedule it so that you know it's happening. Plus it's one more thing to look forward to that day!
